Wavecrest is the world's largest gathering of wooden bodied automobiles in the world. Once a year, usually on the third Saturday of September, Woodies gather at Moonlight Beach in Encinitas California (15 miles north of San Diego). 242 Woodies attended Wavecrest in 1998. From its inception the event has been free to spectators and participants alike.

The event also naturally draws some of the most outstanding vintage Longboards displayed with the Woodies. Trophies are presented for Best Wood, Best Sixty Surfer Woodie, Best Town & Country, Best License Plate, Best Hot Rod, Longest Distance Driven, Hard Luck, and People's Choice.

The event, since 1990, has had a commemorative poster that has become a much desired collectable. Older years having risen in value up to 400%. The event has had a T-shirt since 1985 and a coffee cup since 1988. These items are available at the event, by telephone, mail or e-mail through this site.

The event for 2007 promises to be the biggest and best ever. The event begins at 7:00 a.m., Saturday September 15th, and the awards ceremony is held at 3:00 p.m. Participants spend the day admiring the wood, swapping stories, surfing and barbecuing. The event is officially over at 3:30 p.m., but the die-hard Woodie owners hang out at Moonlight until past sunset.
