1994 - Ticket to Ride
For 1994, artist David Doherty has painted a situation
that some of us, maybe even most of us, have been in at least once in our
lives. This year David has caught Sharyn Legg at one of those moments.
It's a warm summer night and there's a trace of moisture in the air. Sharyn
is traveling north on the 101 through Encinitas in her "hot" 1937
Ford, when she encounters Officer Bud at the La Paloma Theatre. We are
standing across the street when it all happens. Do you think Officer Bud is
asking her to go to the movies? Oh, we don't think so. Perhaps he just wants
her phone number. Maybe. Was she traveling at a speed higher than posted?
Probably. Maybe this has something to do with a "demonstration of
power" down by the stop sign at Hansen's Surf Shop? With the smell of
burning rubber still hanging in the nighttime air, it would be our guess
that Sharyn will have to do some fancy talking to get out of this one.
So, let's take a moment to look at the painting and imagine what she must be
saying. Will we hear her say the accelerator pedal stuck? Will Officer Bud
fall for this excuse? We don't know.
Now, as you walk around Wavecrest, maybe you'll run into a cute little
blonde gal driving a "hot" maroon 1937 Ford with pink wire wheels.
That's Sharyn. Ask her if she got the ticket, or maybe, just maybe, she and
Officer Bud went off together and lived "happily ever after."
