1991 - Moonlight Ride
This year's poster artwork by David O. Doherty features two Woodie
station wagons, a 1947 Ford and a 1949 Ford at Moonlight Beach in
Encinitas, California. Both of the Fords illustrated here are perhaps
the most popular of the wooden bodied cars today.
David Doherty studied Fine Arts at El Camino College and individually
with Harriet Pick, Robert Powers, and Jack McClain. His paintings are
enhanced by his intimate knowledge of Woodies, having restored three
of these unique and and beautiful cars.
David and his wife, Diane, currently own a 1947 Ford Super Delux
Station Wagon and serve of the Wavecrest Committee. They are both
members of the National Woodie Club.

Dave owned his first Woodie, a 1948 Mercury, while in high school in
1962. Like many Woodies owned by surfers, this one came without the
2nd and 3rd seat, and would have been considered restorable at best.
Even for the time, the $80 purchase price was considered modest.
Throughout David's high school days in Redondo Beach, that Woodie
carried him and his buddies on regular surfing trips to Cardiff By The
Sea, Swamies, and Tamarack. Perhaps these locations will be the
subjects for future Wavecrest posters.
This poster is $75.00, plus shipping & handling.
Posters will be shipped rolled in protected tubes $6.00 postage and
