1996 - Back to the Beach Patrol
Many of the participants at Wavecrest over the years have talked longingly
of those days in the Sixties at the many Southern California Surfing Spots.
These surf havens always had the perfect waves, perfect weather, good
friends and an old wooden car that somehow had gotten them there to enjoy it
all. The unique quality of Wavecrest brings you back to the beach where the
pace slows, the smiles start and for a little while even the cars and owners
from out of state slip right into the laid back, at the beach mode.
Hot Rods, Stockers and even a few old Model A's fit right in at the
Moonlight parking lot like they've always been there.
The old surfing spot at Cardiff Reef, a few miles south of Moonlight, still
has beach front parking. The 1996 poster shows five Woodies at Cardiff Reef
where the last colorful clouds of a September sunset are reflected in the
chrome. Surfers come out of the water and put their boards back in the
Woodie. One young mother holds her baby and another walks the dog, while
waiting for her husband. A man and wife give directions to the owner of a
Model A, looking for a good place to eat. And a couple, younger than the car
they drive, talk until sunset.
